Frequently asked questions
What is TankPup?
TankPup connects to the automatic tank gauge (ATG) console at your fuel site and shows its tank levels, alarms, sensors and line status on your phone and computer, with notifications when an alarm starts. Think of it as a watchdog for your tanks: it fetches the readings and sniffs out alarms.
Which consoles does TankPup work with?
Veeder-Root TLS-350 and other TLS-3XX consoles, Veeder-Root TLS-450PLUS and TLS4, and Franklin Fueling Systems EVO 600 and EVO 6000. If you have a different console, contact us.
Is TankPup made by Veeder-Root or Franklin Fueling Systems?
No. TankPup is an independent product from Forecourt Labs LLC. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Veeder-Root, Gilbarco Veeder-Root or Franklin Fueling Systems; their product names are used only to say which consoles TankPup works with.
Does my console need to be on the internet?
Not necessarily. TankPup can connect to a console the internet can reach, through an address (a static IP or a dynamic DNS name) and an open port: TLS-3XX consoles through their serial interface over TCP/IP, TLS-450PLUS, TLS4 and EVO consoles over HTTPS. For a console on a network of its own, such as one wired to a PC at the site, run TankPup Relay on that PC (Windows): it connects the console to TankPup over an outgoing HTTPS connection, so nothing has to be opened on the site’s network.
What is TankPup Relay?
A small free program for a Windows PC at the site. It connects a console that isn’t reachable from the internet to TankPup, over an outgoing HTTPS connection, and runs in the background whenever the PC is on. It only connects to the consoles it was paired with, and for HTTPS consoles the connection is encrypted from TankPup all the way to the console, so the PC never sees the console’s password.
Does TankPup change anything on my console?
Its regular checks only read from the console. TankPup sends something else only when someone on your team chooses to: a line leak test, a report, or key presses in Console Mode. Console Mode works like standing at the console’s own keypad, so it’s limited to technicians, and with app lock turned on it asks for a fingerprint or Face ID first.
How often are readings updated?
Every hour on the Free plan, and as often as every 5 minutes on paid plans. You can also check a site right away with Poll now.
What notifications will I get?
Push notifications come with the paid plans: when an alarm or warning starts (which alarm and where), when it clears, when a console stops answering, and for alerts you set yourself on tank levels, line pressure, pumps and sensors. On the Free plan you see alarms in the app and on the website, without push notifications.
Can I run a line leak test from my phone?
On paid plans, yes, for consoles with line leak detectors that support manual tests: start or stop a test and watch line pressure while it runs. On Franklin EVO consoles you can force a gross, monthly or annual test whenever the console allows one; a forced EVO test runs to its end.
Is TankPup a compliance or leak-detection system?
TankPup is a convenience tool, not a safety, compliance or leak-detection system. It doesn't replace your console's own alarms, or any monitoring, testing, inspections or records you're required to keep.
Can my technicians or my service company see my sites?
Yes. Invite your own people to your team as Technicians or View only, and choose which sites each one sees. To give an outside service company access, share a site with them; you can stop sharing at any time.
What does TankPup cost?
One console is free. Paid plans cover up to 5, 20 or 50 consoles, each with a 14-day free trial, and you can cancel any time. See the plans on the home page; for more than 50 consoles, contact us about Enterprise.
Does TankPup work with metric or imperial consoles?
Yes. TankPup reads the units the console is set to and shows each site in them: gallons, litres or imperial gallons, inches or millimetres, °F or °C.
Which devices can I use?
TankPup has apps for iPhone, Android, Windows and Linux. The store listings are on their way.
How is my information protected?
Everything travels over encrypted connections, console connection details are stored encrypted, and you can require two-step sign-in for your whole team. The privacy policy explains what TankPup keeps and why.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, under Settings → Profile → Delete account, or by email. The delete-account page explains both and what’s removed.
